Male and Female In the Image of God

  • Here is my September 9, 2016 op ed on Time Magazine’s profile of “Evan” the “pregnant male.”  “My Brother’s Pregnancy.”
  • The American College of Pediatricians, which includes the eminent psychiatrist Dr. Paul McHugh (see below) issued a fine report in Summer 2016 blasting the treatment of gender confused children and youth, and calling for a return to compassionate common sense and away from the permanent wreckage being perpetrated against them in the name of “medicine.”  Here it is.
  • David Ayers wrote an essay on feminism for Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (Wayne Grudem and John Piper, Eds, Crossway, 1991, 2006).  In it, he tackled directly the core flaw in radical feminism, namely denying the reality of God-ordained male-female sex differences, and in attempting to apply this false “gender differences are just social constructs” to social policy, creating destructive consequences.  Time has verified rather than undermined this basic critique.  The entire book is now available for free on-line here:  Free PDF of Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.  David Ayers’ essay is Chapter 18, “The Inevitability of Failure:  The Assumptions and Implementations of Modern Feminism.” It begins on page 320, but can be directly accessed by clicking on that chapter in the Table of Contents.
  • A very thoughtful and courageous piece by a dear colleague and friend of David Ayers and this site, Dr. Joseph Horton.  “Which Bathroom Did Klinger Use?”  May 19, 2016
  • Dr. John Sparks directed this to David Ayers.  This is a fascinating piece by a former transgender, Walt Heyer, who actually went through sex change surgery in an attempt to switch from male to female, and returned to living as a man.  This piece was published in the Heritage Foundation’s Daily Signal:  “A Former Transgender’s Take on Obama’s Bathroom Directive,” May 16, 2016.
  • Speaking of Walt Heyer, please find a link to both his website, and his blog (respectively), here and here.  He has lived it, folk.
  • Tim Geiger with Harvest USA has authored an excellent three-part series on transgenderism.  Part 1.  Part 2.  Part 3.  In addition, there is a Transgender Resource page at Harvest USA that is annotated, lays out clearly what is praiseworthy but also problematic in the popular approach of Mark Yarhouse on this issue, and more.  Links include Yarhouse and the response of others, including Harvest USA, to him.  Winsome, solid, steeped in research literature but also much experience ministering to folk struggling with transgender issues and their families.
  • Dr. Paul McHugh, fomer chief psychiatrist at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital, and a giant in his field, has written some incredibly insightful pieces on transgenderism.  Of course, he is now a target of derision and shrill hostility by virtually every major LGBTQIA rights organization, with accusations up to and including his views threatening the physical lives of transgender people.
    • Dr. McHugh co-authored a major report released in mid-August 2016, based on over 200 different research studies.  The bottom line is that almost everything reported by the media about sexual orientation and gender identity is wrong; not rooted in scientific findings despite the dramatic ramifications of acting on these erroneous beliefs in policy and personal life. Here is a link to the complete report.  An excellent summary is provided by the Heritage Foundation here.  Some take-aways are: Are homosexual or bisexual orientation biological or innate? No. Are gender identities where the person’s “true” identity is different than their biological sex biological or innate? No. How often do children “outgrow” and leave behind gender confusion? Usually. Are the dramatically higher rates of suicide and other serious mental problems associated with homosexuality and transgenderism mainly or solely due to discrimination that they face? Absolutely not.
    • Here is a typical Left-wing response to the above report.  They follow a predictable script, and certainly don’t fit into the “civil discourse” genre!  Bottom line, Paul McHugh is a hack driven by bigotry and hate, not a concerned medical expert (being distinguished psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins and a Harvard Medical School grad and a prolific author and actually dealing with this stuff medically for years…nah.).  His organization is “fake.”  All religious objection to the LGBT agenda is just bigotry and they can’t be trusted to do science since they will just use it as an excuse to be bigot.  And so on.  Note to self: try not to ever sink to that level in dealing with people you disagree with.
    • In contrast, here is David French’s discussion of the above Mayer & McHugh report.
    • Here is a now-famous Wall Street Journal  op-ed piece on the subject, originally published on June 12, 2104 then re-released on May 12, 2016.
    • Here is another piece by Dr. McHugh in the June 10, 2015 edition of the Witherspoon Institute’s Public Discourse.
  • On June 1, 2o16 Jackie Hill-Perry gave her testimony about conversion from lesbianism.  It is powerful, and available on video.  The title is “Testimony: My Journey Out of Lesbianism.”
  • Excellent piece on Transgender issues, from The Federalist, which itself includes numberous links.  Based on interview with Focus on the Family’s Glenn Stanton.  It is here.

“…In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.  He created them male and female and blessed them and called them Mankind.”  Genesis 5:1b-2.
“And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,'”… Matthew 19:4
“But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.'” Mark 10:6.
